According to U.S. government data, over 4 million people quit their jobsin December 2021, and almost 11 million jobs are unstaffed. About the same number of quits occurred in November, a 30% increase from the year before.
As in-office work returns, many people want to continue working remotely or pursue an entrepreneurial drive fueled by being stuck at home during the pandemic.
People are starting more businesses, according to the Census Bureau. Applications to form new businesses in December 2021 jumped 20% year over year, and another 34% from December 2019, with fewer high-propensity applications—those from corporations—than those from non corporations.
